Baseboard and Radiator Work Domino Does
- New heating zones for a finished basement, an addition, a converted garage or a bedroom over the garage that never warms up.
- Replacement of worn, dented or leaking copper fin-tube baseboard, in the same spot or a better one.
- Cast iron radiators reconnected, moved, replaced or swapped for baseboard on a hot water system.
- Zone valves, circulator pumps, thermostats and the piping that ties a zone back to the boiler.
- Baseboard and radiator connections when a boiler is replaced or the house is converted from oil to gas.
All of it works off the boiler you have, oil or gas, of any make. The adding a new heating zone page goes deeper into zone valves and how a zone is piped.
Adding a New Heating Zone
A new zone gives one part of the house its own thermostat and its own call for heat. The basement playroom stops depending on the living room thermostat, and the addition stops being the cold room. The work is a run of baseboard sized to the room, supply and return piping back to the boiler, a zone valve or a dedicated circulator, and a thermostat on the wall.
Before any of that, the technician checks whether the boiler has the output to carry another zone. Most Long Island boilers do, because they were sized for the house before anyone added insulation and new windows. When one is at its limit, you hear that at the estimate, not after the baseboard is on the wall.
Replacing Old Baseboard
Copper fin-tube baseboard lasts a long time, but the fins get crushed, the covers get dented and the elements corrode where a floor has been wet. Baseboard that ticks loudly, barely warms, or leaks at a joint is replaced in sections or as a whole run. New baseboard puts out more heat per foot than the units installed in the 1960s and 1970s, so a replacement can also be shorter than what it replaces.
Cast Iron Radiators
Older houses on the North Shore and across Nassau County still heat with cast iron radiators, and many homeowners want to keep them. Cast iron holds heat long after the boiler stops, which is why those houses feel steady rather than cycling warm and cool. Domino reconnects radiators after a renovation, moves them when a wall comes down, replaces valves and vents, and replaces a cracked radiator with a matching one.
On a hot water system, radiators can also be swapped for baseboard. On a steam system they stay, because steam needs radiators and the piping that goes with them.
Cold Rooms That Are Not a Baseboard Problem
A room that is cold while the rest of the house is warm is usually not asking for new baseboard. Air trapped in the loop, a zone valve stuck shut, a dead circulator or a thermostat wired to the wrong zone all produce the same cold room, and all of them are a service call rather than an installation. The technician bleeds the zone and tests the valve and circulator first, and the parts repair and replacement page lists what rides on the truck for those fixes. New baseboard is the answer only when the room never had enough to begin with.
Baseboard Installation Cost on Long Island
The price depends on how many feet of baseboard the room needs, how far the piping has to run to reach the boiler, and whether the zone gets a valve or its own circulator and thermostat. A short replacement run is a small job; a new zone across the house from the boiler is a bigger one. The number comes from a free, written, on-site estimate with no obligation.
Financing is available through Wisetack, subject to its terms, and the financing page explains how it works. Every other Domino price is on the pricing page.
Heating Work From One Company
The NORA-certified technicians who pipe the zone are the same ones who service the boiler it runs from, 24 hours a day, with no service contract. If the baseboard job is part of a boiler replacement or a new water heater, it is priced on the same estimate and done on the same visit.
