Oil Burner Parts Repair and Replacement Long Island

Most heating failures come down to one worn part. Domino trucks carry the ones that fail most, so the repair is usually finished on the first visit, with the part priced before it goes in.

Quick Answer

Domino Oil Burner Service repairs and replaces every part of an oil burner, boiler or furnace across Suffolk County, Nassau County and Queens: nozzles, electrodes, filters, pumps, cad cells, igniters, controls, aquastats, circulators, valves, gauges, coils and combustion chambers. The service call is $189, every part is quoted before it is installed, and the common parts are on the truck. Call (631) 867-2231.

Oil Burner Parts Carried on Every Truck

You get heat back the same day because the part is already on the truck. Every Domino truck is stocked with nozzles, electrodes, oil filters, pump strainers, cad cells, igniters, thermocouples and circulator pumps, which between them cover most of the no-heat calls on Long Island.

Behind those sit the burner components and controls below: draft regulators, pressuretrols, dual and delayed oil valves, stack relays, Flo valves and Firematic valves, cad cell relays, fan belts, thermostats and thermostat relays, aquastats, fan and limit controls, emergency switches, glass and pressure gauges, altimeter gauges, circulator motors, fill and vent caps, and blower motors up to 1/3 HP. When a repair needs something that has to be ordered, the technician says so up front and gets the system running safely in the meantime wherever that is possible.

Oil Burner Parts We Repair and Replace

Nozzle and Electrodes

The nozzle turns oil into a fine spray and the electrodes light it. A worn nozzle gives a lopsided flame, soot and higher oil use; cracked electrode porcelain gives delayed ignition, the rumble you hear a second after the burner starts. Both are replaced at every oil burner tune-up and on any service call where they are the cause.

Oil Filter and Pump Strainer

The filter sits on the line from the tank and the strainer sits inside the fuel pump. A clogged filter starves the burner, which shows up as lockouts that get more frequent as the tank runs low. We replace both, and when the tank has sludge in it we tell you so you can plan a tank replacement before it becomes a yearly problem.

Fuel Pump

The pump pulls oil from the tank and pushes it to the nozzle at pressure. A failing pump whines, loses pressure or seizes, and a pump that has run dry after the tank emptied often needs its seal or the whole unit replaced. Pump pressure is checked with a gauge after any fuel-side repair.

Cad Cell and Primary Control

The cad cell is the eye that proves the flame is lit; the primary control, often called the cad cell relay, shuts the burner down when the eye sees nothing. A sooted eye or a tired control is behind many burners that fire and then lock out within seconds. We clean the eye, test the control's timing and replace whichever is at fault.

Igniter and Ignition Transformer

The transformer or electronic igniter supplies the spark. When it weakens the burner may start on warm days and refuse on cold ones. Thermocouples and hot surface igniters on gas equipment are the same category of job and are on the truck as well.

Blower Motor and Fan Belt

On a warm-air furnace the blower moves the heat through the ducts. A worn belt squeals or slips; a motor on its way out hums without turning or trips its overload. We carry blower motors up to 1/3 HP and the belts that go with them.

Boiler and Furnace Controls

Aquastat

The aquastat tells a boiler when to fire and when to stop based on water temperature, and on many Long Island boilers it also keeps the domestic hot water coil warm. A failed aquastat means no heat, or a boiler that runs far hotter than it should. We recalibrate when the control is sound and replace it when it is not.

Limit Control and Fan Control

The limit shuts the burner off before the furnace overheats; the fan control starts the blower once the air is warm. A tripped limit is a symptom of something else, usually a dirty filter or a blower problem, so we fix the cause as well as the control.

Thermostat and Thermostat Relay

Plain thermostats and the relays that switch the burner from them are replaced on the spot. If you want to upgrade, the smart thermostat options for oil heat page explains which models work with an oil burner.

Pressuretrol and Low Water Cutoff

On a steam boiler the pressuretrol caps the operating pressure and the low water cutoff stops the burner if the water drops too low. Both are safety controls. A boiler that bangs, floods or runs with the water line out of sight needs them tested before anything else.

Oil Valves, Gauges and Safety Devices

  • Flo valves, which stop gravity circulation when the boiler is idle, and Firematic valves, which close the oil line in a fire. Both are replaced when they leak or stick.
  • Dual and delayed oil valves, which cut off oil to the nozzle the instant the burner stops and prevent the after-drip that fouls a chamber.
  • Draft regulators, which keep the chimney from pulling too hard on the burner. A regulator that flaps or sticks wastes heat up the flue.
  • Stack relays on older burners, which sense heat in the flue instead of light at the flame.
  • Emergency switches, the red plate switches at the top of the stairs or beside the unit.
  • Pressure gauges, altimeter gauges and glass gauges, so you can read the system at a glance, plus the fill and vent caps on the oil tank.

Circulators, Coils and Combustion Chambers

Circulator Pump and Circulator Motor

The circulator moves hot water from the boiler through the baseboard or radiators. One zone cold while the boiler runs hot is the classic sign of a dead circulator or a stuck zone valve. Circulator pumps ride on every truck, and motors are replaced separately on the older three-piece pumps that still heat plenty of Long Island houses.

Expansion Tank

A waterlogged expansion tank makes the relief valve drip and the pressure gauge climb. The expansion tank repair and replacement page covers the symptoms and the fix.

Domestic Coil and Coil Plate

Many oil boilers make the house's hot water through a tankless coil inside the boiler. Lime builds up inside the coil until the shower runs lukewarm, and the plate that seals the coil to the boiler can leak. We replace coils and coil plates, and we will tell you when a separate water heater would serve the house better.

Combustion Chamber

The fire chamber lines the space where the flame burns. Once it cracks or crumbles, the flame plays on bare metal and the boiler or furnace is at risk. Chambers are patched when the damage is small and replaced when it is not, and this is one job we look at closely during every tune-up.

When the burner itself is past repair, the burner assembly replacement page explains what a new Beckett, Riello or Carlin burner involves.

Repair or Replace: How the Technician Decides

You hear both options before anything is done. A control that can be cleaned and recalibrated is repaired. A motor that can be oiled and freed is repaired. A part is replaced when the repair would not last the season, when a new part costs about the same as the labor to fix the old one, or when a safety control cannot be trusted after a failure.

Every technician is NORA-certified and has seen your make of burner and boiler many times, so the decision comes from experience and not guesswork. The repair price and, where it applies, the replacement price are given side by side, and the choice stays yours.

Oil Burner Parts Replacement Cost on Long Island

The service call is $189. Each part is priced before it is installed, so you approve the total before the work starts. Calls outside regular hours, weekends and holidays included, carry an additional charge that the dispatcher quotes on the phone before the technician is sent.

There is no service contract and no membership. COD oil customers who buy from any supplier get the same price as everyone else. If a repair would cost more than the system is worth, you get the replacement price next to it, and financing is available for a new boiler, furnace or burner.

FAQ

Oil Burner Parts Questions

1How much does it cost to replace an oil burner part?

The service call is $189, and each part is priced before it goes in. Small wear parts like a nozzle or cad cell cost far less than a fuel pump or circulator, and the technician gives you the number on the spot so there is no surprise on the bill.

2Which parts do the trucks carry?

Nozzles, electrodes, oil filters, pump strainers, cad cells, igniters, thermocouples and circulator pumps, along with the burner components and controls listed on this page. That is why most repairs are finished on the first visit.

3Can I replace the nozzle or filter myself?

You can, but a nozzle has a specific size, angle and spray pattern for your burner, and the pump and air settings have to be rechecked after it is changed. Done wrong it causes soot, delayed ignition or lockouts. The tune-up covers both parts for $219 and includes the adjustments.

4My burner needs a part you have to order. Will I have heat in the meantime?

Wherever it is safe, the technician gets the system running until the part arrives and tells you plainly when it is not possible. Ordered parts are rare, because the common failures are on the truck.

5Do you repair parts, or only replace them?

Both. Controls get cleaned and recalibrated, motors get oiled, chambers get patched, and electrical connections get repaired when that is the right fix. A part is replaced when a repair would not last the season or when a new part costs about the same as the labor to fix the old one.

6Do you work on gas boiler and furnace parts too?

Yes. Thermocouples, igniters, gas valves, limit and fan controls, circulators, zone valves and aquastats are the same jobs on a gas system, and the same technicians handle them.
